Order & Order Width

An order in Deckle Plus is a header — one customer, an order date, an optional customer PO number, an optional delivery date, notes and labels. The demand lives in its order widths: each is one width of a paper type and GSM, with a target weight in metric tons and an optional allowed-variance percentage.

Orders are entered by an Admin under Orders → New Order. Step 1 is the header; step 2 adds the order widths. Planners and the rest of the team see the order queue but do not add or edit orders in the app.

Order Lifecycle

An order moves through these states:

• Draft — being entered; not yet visible to the planning queue.
• Confirmed — ready to plan. Only Confirmed orders can be pulled onto a run.
• In Progress — at least one of its widths is on a running or completed run.
• Completed — every width has been produced.
• Dispatched — the produced goods have been sent to the customer.
• Cancelled — withdrawn.

Each order width also has its own status — Pending, In Progress, Partially Completed or Completed — so a large order can be produced across several runs.

The Three Width Types

Every order width has a type. All three coexist in one order queue.

• REEL — a finished roll at one width. The default and most common type; planned by the optimizer. See REEL Widths.
• SHEET — a flat sheet with two dimensions, width × height. Both are considered by the optimizer. See SHEET Widths.
• THERMAL — a record-only line for thermal-grade rolls. The optimizer does not build a cutting pattern for it; it is used for order tracking, stock fulfilment, reporting and dispatch. See THERMAL Widths.

Labels & Descriptors

Two lightweight tools organize the order queue:

• Labels (Orders → Labels) — free-form tags on an order, e.g. "Export", "Priority", "Rush". Purely for filtering and grouping.
• Descriptors (Setup → Descriptors) — named attributes with a fixed value list, e.g. BF = 18 / 20 / 24, or KIT = 5 / 7. Descriptor values are set on individual order widths and become a hard filter when planning: a run pinned to BF 24 will only pull widths that carry BF 24.

Both Labels and Descriptors are defined by an Admin; the values are then attached to orders and order widths as they are entered.

Choosing a Width Type

• REEL — a roll delivered at a customer-specified width, cut by the optimizer.
• SHEET — the customer needs flat cut sheets (offset print, carton blanks); enter both dimensions.
• THERMAL — thermal-grade rolls (POS receipt, label stock, ATM) that you want on the order for tracking and dispatch but are not planning through the deckle optimizer — for example rolls slit on a separate line or bought in. Record the core/OD as descriptors.
